Reply:Roses seem to be available year round and reasonable. We had Horrocks do ours. They are in Lansing and Grand Rapids. Not sure about Detroit, but they do deliver.

They should be able to provide you with the best options for this time of year. You don't ultimately have to purchase your flowers for them, but most will provide a free initial consultation. Greetings from Troy Michigan. September is Homecoming month for most of the area schools. So florist will have a lot of roses, carnations,orchid blossoms,and alstroemeria. My best bet is to go with roses but carnations are a cheaper option. Thrifty florist always does nice wedding flowers. They also offer wedding discounts.
Reply:You have TONS of possibilities. Most flowers will come in those awesome autumn colors, like russet, orange, golden yellow, bronze, aubergine, and deep purples. But a lot of flowers are available year round. Something nice to get this time of year is wheat. Think of harvest time with baskets, arrangements in pumpkins, beautiful leaves and candlelight. Can you tell this is my favorite time of year?

How are the flowers at wholesale places different from the ones at Trader Joe's?

I'd like to buy bulk flowers and make arrangements myself. I've never visited a wholesale floral place before, but when I went to Trader Joe's (or some other supermarkets), they have cheap flowers as well ($10 for a dozen small roses). I was wondering, do they have similar prices at wholesale florals or are the prices similar? Thanks.

Trader Joe is just a middle man he buys from wholesalers also, he just buys so much he gets a break on the price then he makes the $$, if you buy enough the wholesaler should give you a break also, you may need a resale license.

Reply:Wholesale florists are going to provide a better bulk selection and will most likely be fresher. Super markets usually get them after the wholesaler, more shipping and waiting time. Why not cut the middle man. There are also excellent web sites with great deals that will send the flowers right to your door, fast, fresh and cheaper. Don't forget to process them after. Alittle sugar in warm water after cutting is good for almost all flowers. (No milky stems).
Reply:Zoe has good advice. Wholesalers get fresh flowers...when they start to turn they "unload them" to high volume retail places at near cost....to keep them longer would mean complete loss of investment.

However, you ordinairly have to operate a business to get access to the wholesale places. That means your local permeits and state resale tax number before they will let you in the door.

Keep in mind you are dealing with a live commoditiy with limited "shelf life". Wholesaler get the cuttings in less than 24 hours. Retailers get theirs in up to 72 hours and what they don't sell goes into the garbage.

~ if a blue burgundy - lavender (easy to find flowers), mushroom (elegant) and olive green

~ if a brown burgundy - orange (looks great for fall), light tobacco (just lighter orange) and green gold (similar to mustard).. this looks great for autumn/fall

~ if a pink burgundy - schiaparelli pink (bright pink.. could get lilies in with a hint of this in), nectarine (lovely in roses!) and a beige grey which i guess would be substitued for the ivory

Reply:Do a dark chocolate cake, with dark chocolate icing, very simplistic with a few silk fall leaves arranges on the top and other tiers. The burgandy colour will be picked up in the leaves.

I will not have bridesmaids, or any flower arrangements at church or home. I just will have a small bouquet arranged from my backyard flowers for me. No corsages or anything. I believe it is a waste of $$, and the floral industry charges so much and then off to a honeymoon for 2 weeks in which I would never see floral arrangements that would wilt anyways. You say?

~ Do you have enough backyard flowers for 2 vases (can be bought at a dollar store) for each side of the altar at the church?

I do think that would look nice. OR....do you live by a Walmart or Costco? I buy roses all the time from Walmart...you get 12 for $10! Cheap! I don't know what Costco charges. All the grocery stores with floral departments (and some without!) even sell flowers now. My local grocery store does and I live in a little town!

I do think it would look nice to have something in the church. But, again, YOUR choice.

Also...something inexpensive would be ....what about a small boutonniere for your groom and a small corsage for the "moms"? This is EASY, EASY, EASY to do with silks, which you can make up ahead of time. And with all the upcoming sales at craft stores? Well, again, just an idea. But if you're only worried about flowers dying and not getting your money's worth, you can use silk flowers and give the bouquets as gifts to the mothers and grandmothers before going on your honeymoon. Flowers just make things look more festive.

I think it's at least "morbid",if not disrespectful to take flowers from someones funeral boquets.I've ben to funerals and witnessed people swarming up to the casket(after the "grave-side service")to take flowers from the casket spray and other floral arrangements,reminding me of "VULTURES".C'mon people,those were bought FOR THE DECEECED!

I've never done it or seen people "swarm" to the the casket, but I have seen a few folks take a small flower from a spray after the graveside service. I try not to be too judgmental of people at funerals. We all grieve in our own way, so I wouldn't begrudge someone taking a small memento from a funeral spray. The deceased can't enjoy the flowers, so the living may as well use them however they see fit.

I would like to start learning to knit. That is my next challenge if I can finish all that I have already started.
Reply:I make beaded crosses and other wire-%26amp;-bead jewelry, I knit all sorts of things -- I prefer making my own patterns, and I do share if you email me -- and I sew most of my own clothes. I make my own patterns there, too. That way, I get what I want. It's always seemed silly to me to let someone halfway around the world, whom I've never even met, decide what I'm going to be wearing this season. Makes no sense to me.

Also remember you'll have the alter flowers and sprays of red in them will look just beautiful (roses, lilies, gerber daisies etc) Your florist should have books for you to look through. Also does your church have columns? Sometimes they have hooks for hanging plants.

Ok so I found a few parks and such and I found one actual venue t hat is relatively cheap I dont want it to look cheap we will do our own decorating any we are cooking the food, making floral arrangements centerpieces, I don't mind all that I just dont really want to spend over 3k on this wedding. I found a great bakery that is affordable, nice affordable dress, etc. just don't want to really spend over 1500 on a venue. (Wedding and Reception sight)

If you are willing to go to Galveston go to http://www.galvestonhistory.org they rent out their historical properties relatively inexpensive, especially on weeknights.
Reply:Two suggestions for venue, check with the church you or your parents belong to they often charge members $500 to nothing for the church and the community room, which has a kitchen but your family has to clean and sweep afterwards. Another check with the historical society on renting a building or garden. Oh and three, a friends backyard can be nice for a small group with reception inside, offer to pay for a maid service. Please don't forget to pay the preacher!

Reply:It depends on what characteristic part of the Island you fall in love with. There's nothing truly authentic in San Juan or Condado, I traveled outside of the main areas of puerto rico to get a rich history of the culture.

When you shop for chachka's and souvenirs be weary of the vendors and the places they come from. A lot of it is made in DR, Brazil and hardly in PR. When I went I had to sift through items ie jewelry boxes, frames etc.. made from teak wood from brazil and as far as costa rica. The paintings came from DR/Haiti same difference cause they are made by Haitian Artists.

Make sure to travel to the outskirts of town and not fall into the trap of buying something touristy, no family memeber wants to be stuck with that. I bought a lot of mirros/ hand made frames and dresses when I went to puerto rico. Think about the gift and see if it would be something you would like sitting in your living room or the back of a closet.

When my Dad died many people gave us potted plants instead of flowers...I appreciated this very much, now I have a living reminder of him that I can look at daily.
Reply:Bring a nice plant in a pot that you have painted yourself, put in a little card on a florist pick, and give it to the funeral director. He or she will quietly place it with the other flowers, and the family will see your card later on.

You normally would not present a gift at a funeral. This is because a gift would put the attention on you, and you don't want that. If you want to make a candle or other craft, give it to them at home, after the funeral is over, when nobody else is around.

Reply:I just saw a great idea at a funeral last week. Someone had purchased a small picnic basket (probably from WalMart) and had attached a silk flower to top....something simple........and a handmade, "from" tag to the basket handles. Inside was several snack items, like lunch cakes, cracker snack packets, gum, Lifesavers, etc. When a family is spending hours meeting people at a funeral home, often it is hard to get 5 minutes to step aside and have a snack. The picnic basket full of quick snacks was a very welcome gesture and will be remembered long after flowers have faded. Giving a remembrance gift is very much a custom in my part of the USA......framed prints, figurines, etc. But I like the picnic/snack basket, the best.

Simple to put together, and they usually come lined in fabric. If not, purchase one cloth napkin for the snacks to be arranged on.

How hard is it to make a casket spray?

My father passed away on Monday and the funeral is Friday. The family is responsible for the flowers. We don't have a whole ot of money, and I was viewing some casket sprays online and they are very expensive. My father is being creamated immediately following the funeral service so I don't see the point in spending 200 dollars (I hope you all know what I mean when I say this, I don't mean to sound hateful or disrespectful), just to make it look pretty, if I can make it just as pretty by doing it myself. Plus I need to keep myself busy, it's how I'm dealing with his death right now. Do you guys have any tips or know anything about making floral arrangements for funerals?

Sweetie, first of all let me say I know how hard it is to lose a parent, and I am so sorry......You can get relatively cheap artificial flowers that are pretty at craft stores (Pat Catan's, etc...). Or you can create a spray from the flowers he liked most. When my grandmother died we picked a ton of tulips from her garden and made a spray that way. Just figure out what you want to put in it and buy some ivy to put around it....I'm sure it will be beautiful, and remember that gone or not Dad will see it......God Bless you and your family!!!!!

a local florist is making two types of floral arrangements for thanksgiving: regular and special. Each regular arrangement requires 3 mums, 3 daisies, and 2 roses, and each special arrangement reguires 4 mums, 2 daisies, and 4 roses. The florist has set aside 60 mums, 54 daisies, and 52 roses for the two types of arrangements,

The florist will make a profit of $2 on each regular arrangement and $3 on each special arrangement.

1. write an objective function for the profit.

2. Create a system of inequalities to represent the constraints. Graph the feasible region.

3. identify the vertices of the feasible region.

4. how much of each type of arrangement should the florist make in order to maximize the profit? what is the maximum profit?

5. If the maximum profit is achieved, will there be any flowers left over? Explain your reasoning.

I need help with these math answers really bad?
The problem is actually simple, just take a look at any Research Operations book, Taha is the author of one very famous and also so simple. The answer is some large to write it here but I'm sure that looking one example in that book will help you to do the problem by yourself.

I did not use them for my own wedding but i did use them for a friends and not only did they turn out beautiful but they had an amazing price. They were guaranteed. They did exactly what the bride wanted and they were the freshest flowers i have ever seen. I truly think it is more bang for your buck. Hope your wedding is wonderful!
Reply:I've done the flowers for more than 50 weddings and some of the best I've ever done were budget weddings with grocery store flowers. They don't last long but technically you only need them for one night. White roses are sometimes a little scary cuz they tend to bruise but I would go for it. If you want them to be more personable, if you do do roses what i do to make them rich looking is getting white pearl corsage pins at michael's and sticking one in the center of each bud so they're flush with the top of the rose. It looks so beautiful and makes the brides bouquet stand out from the bridesmaids. Adding your own ribbon helps too! Hope that helped :)

I hate the normal floral arrangement- you get so many of them when a family member dies- you just lay them around the house, and then throw them out when the die. What a waste of money!

I always send a potted tree like a dogwood, a blue sruce, or something like that. They can plant it in their yard and when they look at it in later years they can remember their loved one. People really seem to appreciate the gesture.
Reply:Take them some food, offer to help with the thank you cards, donate some money to some organization in the deceased's memory, or just send a nice card with heartfelt sentiments and let them know you're there for them if they need anything.

I am wanting to decorate the night before using fresh red roses in vases. If we do this, how will the flowers look the next day at 530 pm? They wont be too wilted already would they already? The reason why we want to do this, is if we buy our roses fresh from a wholesaler we save sooo much money then buying arrangements at a local floral shop.

Also, can anyone recomend any wholesaler websites for flowers?

We did the same thing for my son's wedding!

One question....when and where is the reception? If it is in the summer...you will want to make sure that the hall is air conditioned WHEN you set up....not the next day. They will be fine if they are in an air-conditioned room all night. OR, on the flip side....is it a winter wedding? Again, you don't want the hall TOO HOT for the whole night. Make sure the heat is turned way down. So...if the temperature in the room is OK for the whole night, you should be fine. Ours were lovely!

We had a Saturday wedding, so the roses arrived on Thursday. On Friday, my sister and I did them up. One warning.....it takes a lot of work to unwrap, cut the stems, put them in water filled with rose preservative, etc., so allow lots of time to do this. Again, I have an air conditioned house...so it worked out good...they were in the basement (very cool) overnight. You CAN'T use standard refrigerators. (They will tell you that). Florist refrigerators are different. But, in the end, IT'S WORTH IT because you will have saved TONS of money.
Reply:Don't do it. You can't determine the temp of the room over night and through the day. If you do it, you might walk into dead flowers.

If you are having your reception at a banquet hall/reception hall, then they should do all the decorating the day of as part of your package/contract.
Reply:those flowers should arrive 5 minutes before the guests arrive at the wedding reception. Choose someone in your area and get a discount because you're ordering in quantity. Choose someone (some company you can trust...get references) so that they can be trusted to bring the flowers timely.

I did my flowers for my engagement party and my shower. I used orchids, calla lillies (engagement) and red roses (shower). I didn't do my wedding because of wedding nerves and stress. With wedding nervousness and last minute preperations...flowers were not my focus. But it's possible and may save you a ton of money.

I'm not a florist, but from my experience these flowers last forever. The key is to get REALLY fresh flowers, I'm not sure where your getting your flowers but I told my florist to make sure their fresh. Can the wholesale people help with that? Or try a supermarket, that's where i bought the roses and the girl helped me with coordinating.

I did the arrangement the day before both parties, and both were refrigerated the night before. I do think they'll be okay because my flowers lasted weeks after the event!!!! We gave them to guests and the said they were really strong and healthy. Out of the 2 arrangements (mini calla lillies and cymbidium orchids lasted longer) 3 weeks after the wedding

I didn't fill the vases very high with water overnight for transporting, they need enough so the stems are touching the water. Fill them up when you get there...

The first arrangement took longer because I wasn't sure what to do??? So be prepared for some flowers to be more managed and may break. Ugggh. Once the first is done the rest are easier.

When making floral arrangements. Do you start with small flowers at the top and work downward with larger flowers? Or do you start with large flowers on top and work downward to smaller flowers?

If you are talking about which flowers to put at the TOP of the arrangement, as in the highest point, then yes, smaller at the top and larger at teh bottom. If you are talking simply about which ones to put in first, many times I will put the large focal flowers in first and then fill in with the smaller ones. In a line though, smallest at top, largest at bottom. It makes the proportions more appealing to the eye because putting large at top and small at bottom isn't natural looking and ends up looking top heavy.

I know nothing about horticulture, so to those of you who do, this may appear to be a dumb question....

If I were shipping flowers to a nursery, would I ship them fresh cut or would I dry them? Assume, that these flowers are going to the nursery to be planted to continue their growth. As I understand, aren't flowers only dried when they are to be part of a floral arrangement or wreath? As of now, I think flowers shipped to a nursery should be shipped fresh cut.

Some ideas we had were a hay bail toss, a floral arrangement competition, and a watermelon seed spitting contest. I was hoping some one, or hopefully many people would be able to give some ideas. Reply:You could borrow a few ideas from rodeos. I realize these are high schoolers you're talking about, but one of the funniest things I've seen at rodeos were children riding a "wild" sheep or trying to catch a greased pig. Another event I saw was children trying to catch half a dozen calves with "ribbons" or tags on their ears. The children didn't have to literally catch the calf, just pull off the ribbon (they weren't attached too tight). High schoolers could probably do that one if you had fast calves (don't know what time of year you are doing it, but the calves might already be pretty big by then). You could do an obstacle race with single runners or relay teams, such as putting on large farmer-style agricultural boots, jumping over hay bales, shucking a couple of ears of corn, rolling a tractor wheel a certain distance, dropping dry beans from the height of your nose into a glass jar (this is leftover from birthday party games years ago), carrying an egg on a spoon without dropping it, for a certain distance, or milking a goat or cow to get a certain amount of milk in a jar.

A florist has to make a floral arrangement. She has 6 banksias, 5 wattles and 4 waratahs. All the flowers of each kind are different. In how many ways can the florist make a bunch of 10 flowers if she has to use AT LEAST 3 OF EACH KIND?

I have a very hard maths problem that I have no idea on where to start. It seems easy, but I'm sure it isn't.
Since you have to use at least three of each kind to make a bunch of 10, that means you will have to use 4 of one kind and 3 of each of the other two. So you can count those possibiliities:

4 banksias:

6C4 * 5C3 * 4C3 = 15*10*4 = 600

4 wattles:

6C3 * 5C4 * 4C3 = 20*5*4 = 400

4 waratahs:

6C3 * 5C3 * 4C4 = 20 * 10 * 1 = 200

Then add them up to get 1200 possible bunches!

I am concidering selling artificial floral arrangements on the internet but i am finding it difficult to set up an account with any wholesalers as they are asking for proof of business. I need some info on how to get a wholesale account?
First using your PC make your self a letter head with the name of your business on it, your address,telephone number. Just as you would if writing to a new customer. Do this along the top and leave the rest of the area for you correspondence. Look at other business letters that you get and go along similar lines. Then using you PC print off some business cards with the same detail on them but as an addition add in the nature of your business and mobile number etc. Then go to the wholesalers and say you want and account and then show them your letter head and card. Alternatively, which might be better write to them on your new letter head.

What kind of flowers are these?
Dahlias. It is a tuber flower kind of like how a potato grows. They come in a giant variety or a normal size. Giant up to 12-24 inches and regular 3-6 inches.

We are not allowed to have candles at the reception, so I'm thinking more of a floral arrangement. I'm planning on silk flowers and something inexpensive, and something I can make myself. Anyone have any ideas??

What about a pretty vase... Im picturing one that looks like a big cyllindrical glass with halved oranges in water that you've added some red food coloring to make the water look fushia?

Reply:my cousins had a wedding a few years ago where the centrepieces were tiny pumpkins that had been hollowed out, and had an arrangement of flowers in them, kind of using the pumpkins as a vase-type base. they looked quite spectacular, so you could look at something like that.

clear, cylindrical vases - fill w/ tulle or greenery, mixed in w/ ribbon pieces and loose flowers that match your colors. great way to use up any odds and ends from favors and other decorations.
Reply:A fish bowl with fuschia colored glass beads and goldfish. It has your colors and your centerpiece moves! Plus, people can take the fish home (bowl and all) with them after the wedding.

We did this at our wedding. We had a glass mirror down, got small decorative bowls (from Dollar Tree), put lavender and silver bead in the bottom (our colors) and put a beta in the bowl. We did have candles, but it was just two votive candles around the bowl. It looked awesome and people loved the fish. I bought 22 fish and only ended up taking 4 home with me! :)

Reply:This may sound weird but try and picture it.

Many orchids have fuschia in them. ( even silk ones) find some that have the fuschia and put them and small oranges or tangerines in clear vases. If you place them in just right, the flowers would hide the full whole oranges, yet the colors would be great together. You can get clear vases at the dollar store!

Reply:Another way to add drama to your centerpieces is battery operated candles - comes in all sizes, from pillars to tea lights. Fushia and orange stargazer lillies are gorgeous.

Gerber daises are very pretty especially in hand tied bouquets. Roses of course, but in certain months they are

really expensive (Feb. May and June)

Watch for the sales for the silk flowers or they can be very expensive.

The lady is charging me $700 to decorate my hall. Is that too much, that's just completely out of my budget. But, I want it to be decorated really pretty.

The reception decorations would include 1. a centerpiece for each guest table 2. A similar but larger centerpiece for the head table; 3. white china dishes for the head table (for each setting - dinner plate, salad plate, water glass, wine glass, 2 silver forks, one silver knife and one silver spoon); 4. white linen table cloths for every table; 5. clear disposable plates for your guest; 6. clear knives, spoons, and forks for you guest (each set will be rolled in a paper napkin and tied with a tulip colored ribbon); 7. floral arrangements and greenery for the buffet table; 8. linen dinner napkins for the head table

I would say unless she is doing cleanup AND providing the flowers herself (no florist) she is charging a bit much, but you must take into consideration where you live as well... if you live in NY prices are alot higher than if you live in Omaha, NE - for example.

Seriously, though, usually the bridal party decorates the night before, or possibly the morning of the event. I'm not having a bridal party (as we're having a tiny destination wedding), but I am having a reception 2 weeks after we return. My sisters, brother and parents will be decorating the hall...which should be pretty easy since it's the weekend before Halloween and it's a costume ball. We got a bunch of cheap decorations that look awesome.

Hopefully you can find a cheap way to decorate your hall...because that lady is insane!

Reply:My decorating for the hall was included in the overall reception site. The decorations were provided by my florist and my mom (who made most of them). A friend of mine is getting married wants to use an outside decorator for the hall and they are charging an extra fee that is outrageous.

Reply:How many guests are you having? If this is a small wedding, it sounds like you're overpaying, but if it's even 100 people, I think it's a reasonable price because the flowers alone could set you back at least $500 for 8 guest tables and the head table. Also, you have to figure that disposibles are going to cost at least a dollar per person for the plates, glasses, dessert plates, silverware, etc.

Reply:You could always do it yourself. I had about that much for my wedding and on the day before the wedding my bridal party and I went and decorated. I got there early and set up a table how I wanted it and when everyone got there they used the table for reference. Not only was it FREE but we all had a great time too.

But If you really want to pay for her I don't think that is bad price.

California Peony (Paeonia californica) is just one of the natives. Mixing them in with other flowers is a good idea. Most florist get their flowers (even flowers that are grown in their own state) from other states %26amp; even from other countries with cheap labor anyway. Sometimes it's cheaper for them because they contract for huge volumes at big discounts.

I heard people getting bulks of flower at the LA Flower District for cheap. I was there two weeks ago and bought some flowers to practice making bouquets for my Wedding November 08. I love the results and plan to do all the floral arrangements and bouquet for my wedding.

Reply:Just go into the Flower Market during public hours. Public hours are 6 am to noon Tuesday, thursday, Saturday or 8am to noon M,W,F. You'll have to pay the entrance fee (a whooping $1 on Saturdays or $2 any other day) and they'll stamp your hand and give you a sticker to wear to show that you paid.

Then you just wander around a purchase between the 2 warehouse buildings.

Two (okay 3) words of warning though:

-Shop around for prices before handing over money.

-Most places only take cash, so you need to have it on you, or there are ATMs

-Go early! Some places pack up around 9 or 9:30 so it is to your benefit to roll out of bed and put on your lazy day clothes to get down there.

Hi - I would like some advice about getting flowers for this girl that I like. She is 27 years old. We have been talking and hanging out for about 3 months now. Nothing has happened yet between us. No kiss, no 'more than a hug' kind of thing yet. She is very busy and I hardly see her. She knows I'm interested in her.

I want to get her some flowers for Valentines day and I want something that lasts. I was thinking of doing a silk rose arrangement but I would like some ideas from the ladies. I don't want it too big or too small. I think too big means 'trying too hard' and hardly anything could mean just a friendship kind of thing.

So please tell me what I should get. I was thinking a single silk red rose and a teddy bear to go with it. But I don't know what else would be good. Accessories? Etc..?

My maid of honor was incredible! I thought she would hold a bouquet for me and perhaps throw a shower, but she took being a bridesmaid to a whole new level! She threw parties, went shopping with my mother for a dress, created floral arrangements, made me breakfast on the wedding day, drove me everywhere, went to my dress fittings, anticipated my every need, coordinated details with the other bridesmaids, transported the wedding gifts, the list is so long. Honestly, this was the kind of MOH I was for my best friend, everyone commented on how they had wished that their MOH's were more like me. Her husband bought she and beautiful matching rings and wrote a letter that was read at her shower about what he thought our friendship was. It was really beautiful and I was so touched that they had made something that was totally about them about me as well. BUT in all honesty, nothing I recieved gift wise was worth the thank you note that I got from my best friend afterwards. It was heartfelt and genuine and full of such gratitude towards me and my husband as well.

No gift will replace a really nice letter and that will be enough for her. Remember she didnt do all that stuff for a gift at the end, she did it because it was her pleasure to help make your special day awesome.

Starting pussy willows in floral foam? Anyone heard of or tried that?

I recieved a flower arrangement with pussy willows in it a couple of weeks ago.

After the flowers died, I went to throw out the arrangement and the pussywillows had sprouted leaves!

When I pulled the branches from the foam, there were small white roots running through the foam.

My question is, if I tried to do this ON PURPOSE next year, would it work again, and what would I need to add to the water that the foam block is soaked in?

You can simply start pussy willows in a jar of water. Just let them sit there until they sprout(give fresh water every few days) then plant them in some potting soil in a container. They sprout easily.

I wouldn't leave them in the foam.

I have a huge pussy willow tree and I put some in a vase with just water in they all sprouted.

You can dry pussy willlows out and they are good in dry arrangements.
Reply:Pussy willows can just be placed in water and they will root. It is one of the easier plants to root. They are ready for planting when roots reach a couple of inches long. I rooted a few this spring, stuck them in the ground, haven't had to tend to them since. They are extremely easy to grow and you can cut them back each season if you like and they will return more full each year.

Is there any way to remove hardened acrylic water from sterling silver chain?

I have 20 feet of sterling silver chain that I accidentally exposed to acrylic water while making a floral arrangement. I didn't realize it at the time, and now the chain is all crimped and curled. Is there anything I can soak this silver chain in to get rid of the acrylic water? 20 feet of sterling silver snake chain is not cheap these days, and really hate the thought of throwing that money away!

Is there any way to remove hardened acrylic water from sterling silver chain?
Electrolytic Cleaning Solution:

Ingredients:

¼ cup baking soda

¼ cup salt

¼ cup liquid dish soap

½ gallon of water

Equipment:

Large pot

Aluminum foil

Plastic spoon

Stove top

colander or strainer

towel

Take a large pot, such as a spaghetti pot, and completly line the inside with aluminum foil. Pour all of the ingredients into the pot and stir with your plastic spoon. Collect the sterling silver jewelry you want to clean, and count each item so you know the total number you put into the pot. Place them into the solution and spread them out on the bottom of the pot so they don't touch each other. Bring this to a low boil for a few minutes. Then turn off the burner and let it sit for another couple of minutes. Then using the colander or strainer, pour out the solution. Rinse well with cold water making sure that all salt is rinsed off your silver. (Salt will eventually corrode metal.) Count your items as you place them on a towel to dry. Make sure you’ve accounted for all your jewelry before you throw away the aluminum. It will be dirty because the oxides on your jewelry were transferred to it. Your sterling silver jewelry should now look like new.

Super Cleaner

In an eight ounce container (pickle jars work well), combine one inch of cleaning detergent (Top Job or Mr. Clean), one inch of dish washing liquid, and one inch of ammonia. Fill the rest of the container with water. Shake well. Use your microwave to heat up solution slightly or put in an old pot (you don’t use for food) and simmer on stove top. Place jewelry (silver or gold) into solution and let sit for about ten minutes. Remove from solution and rinse with water. That’s it.

Both these cleaner work well. For silver, I prefer the first recipe since it uses ingredients most people have around the house, and it’s not as toxic as the second recipe so it’s safer if you have children or animals around your house. The Super Cleaner can also be used for cleaning your jewelry projects in between buffing compounds so your polishing wheels don’t get contaminated or caked up.
Reply:Use methyl ethyl ketone to get rid of the acrylic. It will do the job well but be aware about its nasty properties.

Its fumes are very toxic and its liquid can be absorbed through the skin. Use it outdoors only for good ventilation and wear good rubber/plastic gloves to keep it off your hands.

You can do something as simple as this for a centre piece. Just use a yellow and/or red (fake or real) rose instead of pink like in the photo. If you use a red rose, use a yellow candle, and if you use a yellow rose use a red candle.

Reply:I just got done working on my friend's wedding, who had a budget of next to nothing (just barely $2,000 if that). We used Oriental Trading Company, because they have good quality stuff for cheap prices. As far as flowers go, look for a flower warehouse. You can buy your own flowers and do simple arrangements on your own. Also, check out local floral shops ask them for help. Tell them what your budget is and they should be more than willing to help. They want your business, and they will work with you to try and find something you like in your price range. Also, try the store Hobby Lobby. They have sales every week and they have really good quality wedding and floral items. I decorated for my friend's wedding reception and for streamers, some paper lanterns, glass vases, candles, and tableclothes, I definitely spent less than $100, but this was for a small reception.

One last way to save money on flowers-pick one flower that you really love that looks really nice (an orchid, a type of rose) and then build a cheaper arrangement around that.

Reply:It kind of depends on what kind of flowers you like! It also depends on if you want fresh flowers or fake flowers. Carnations are cheap and they come in red. Roses come in red and yellow buy can cost a lot at times! I you want to do roses but don't want to pay so much money you can mix roses with a cheaper flower like carnations. I am not going to do the work for you but I will help.

The profit is what you get for each sale of each arrangement type. So the total profit is the total profit from the combined sales.

The constraints are if all of one arrangement is sold and the other is 0. There are 2.

To max the profit you need to find the combination of reg and spec arrangements that give the most money and leave as few flowers as possible.

You can find a special glitter spray, which can be sprayed directly on the flowers. This type of spray can be bought from a floral shop or a garden centre. It is very easy to use, and it's fun, decorating your flowers differently. Don't use any type of glitter spray but use a specific one. Have fun tyring it out! :)

Reply:i think its pretty. you could do arrangements for 220 you could choose less expensive flowers, or you could do one or two big flowers per table. at one wedding i saw arrangements made out of nothing but baby's breath and it was really pretty and fairly inexpensive.. another thing you could do is use silk flowers, reasonably priced ( better if they are on sale) and you dont have to worry about dealing with a florist you dont know. good luck!

Reply:It probably depends just on where your future in-laws live. I know it could be done here, but the cost of living is very low in KY compared to other places. The further out of the city you are, the better chance there if of getting them for your price.

You don't have to make deals with the florists right now, but can you just kind of bop around to the shops in the town and ask to see some of their work? Maybe you could look at the more elaborate displays and inquire about the pricing for those to get some idea.

I think the arrangements themselves will look beautiful, but you may want to do a trial run with one complete set of the vases and some silk flowers, just to make sure that everyone seated will be able to see each other clearly around them and be able to converse freely.

I think lilys (not calla, but tiger and other field lilys) are beautiful and would work well, and gladiolas would be gorgeous. They come in all kinds of jewel tones. For the shortest vases, daisies might be okay...but a mix of yellow and red or something. Leave the dyed blue and green to someone else! (I've always thought that looks so unnatural.)

Reply:I think you could definitely do something for $220, you just need to pick bigger flowers, things that take up more space so you need less of them like hydrangeas, peonies, dahlias, sunflowers, etc. The idea sounds really pretty.

Reply:I would use a lower center vase because you want guests to be able to see over it so that they can converse with each other. I would pick one size of the votive candle holder that is lower than the vase and use that either four or six of them around the vase. Arrangements can be done for a lot less than 220 with using a vase that size. Even if you do all red roses, it wouldn't cost 220 for flowers. I think I would compliment the red instead of trying to match it because reds are very difficult to match.

I've got to start interviewing florists soon, and I'm trying to make a list of the flowers I'll need for our wedding. I've got the centerpieces and the bouquets down, but I'm not sure who all is supposed to get a boutineer or corsage. Obviously the groomsmen get boutineers and the mothers get corsages, but who else? I want to have an accurate count so I can figure out my floral budget. Thanks! Oh, and what other arranged bouquets will I need as well? I know I'll need a couple of arrangements for the altar, but what else?

Who gets flowers?
Okay!! Other than your bouquet and the centerpieces on the dinner tables, make sure you have other tables counted as well- if you are doing anything for the buffet table (if you are having one), gift table (ditto), guest book table, etc.

A few arrangements at the altar are nice, also decide if you want to have anything at the end of the pews and if so, are they going to be floral?

Dont'd forget flower petals - for the flower girls (if theyre allowed to drop them), as well as possibly having guests throw them on you (instead of rice, etc.), and possibly decorating tables with them.

For boutonnieres, corsages, and bouquets, you have obviously the bride and groom, then the groomsmen and bridesmaids, and then mothers and fathers. Some people also choose to honor grandparents with corsages/boutonnieres, or any other guests you want to distinguish, such as godparents. It is also very nice to have anyone who is doing something for you in the ceremony, like reading or singing, to have one.

Also decide on if you want flowers or some other topper on your cake.

Oh and if your flower girls arent or cant drop petals, make sure you have something for them - a mini-bouquet or a pomander ball, or something.

And decide if you are planning to throw the bouquet-you may want a smaller, less expensive "tossing" bouquet instead of using your real one if you want to keep/preserve your own.

All of this is optional-you can stick to the bare bones (wedding party and parents) or flesh it out the the rest of this, but there shouldnt be anything I didnt put on the list that is usually done. Don't forget if you want to save money or do things a little differently, you can use silk flowers instead of real ones, you can choose what types of flowers you use-different ones cost A LOT differently, you can have bridesmaids carry candles or flower girls ring bells, etc. You can also get bouquets and boutonnieres made out of swarovski crystals which are really pretty, or you could do non-floral centerpieces (like floating candles, etc). Just some ideas; good luck!!!

Generally the bride has some sort of bouquet (to later throw) and the groom has some sort of buttonhole blossom. Everything beyond that is really just icing on the cake. If your florist tries to tell you otherwise, tell your florist that Miss Manners says and that he/she is just trying to pad the bill.

you should also find pictures of flowers and arrangements that you like so you can show the florist what you would like to have

What are "Water Jewels" made of?

Has anyone else heard of them? They are sold at craft stores in the same department as floral design supplies, as vase fillers for fresh or silk flower arrangements.

They start out as tiny hard spheres; the clear color variety looks just like the silicone dessicant found in shoe boxes (to keep them dry). When you leave them in water for about 1 hour each one swells up to about marble size and becomes a beautiful clear or colored sparkling orb. Then they are squishy and slippery. Most amusing.

The package is about 2 inches across and contains 200 or so. They come in clear, blue, and green so far but they CAN be colored with food coloring as they expand.

Warm water makes them expand faster.

They shrink back to original size when they dry out in about a week!

Salt destroys them completely.

What the heck are they???

I just looked at the package I have. It just refers to product as poly crystals. No where on the packaging does it state what they are made of. It just says it is a non-toxic polymer that absorbs water. I guess that's the best answer we're going to get.

You can get floating candles anywhere. Less than $2 a piece. Try google search "Floating candles."

You just use water.

You can't use any kind of flowers. The petals have to be firm. Soft petals won't hold their original shape when they are submerged into the water. The one you see in the picture is called "Mokara Orchid." Either this one, or you can use Dendrobium Orchid (cheaper) or Cymbidium Orchid (expensive).

Don't use silk. They are too soft; besides, they are too buoyant.

The Church sits atop a plastic base that holds the "foam" that the flowers were stuck in. We haven't been able to remove the Church from the base to replace the batteries and to use it alone since the flowers and greenery died and have been thrown out. To see an example of the type of arrangement it was, you can see the 2007 version at the Telefora website. The person at the 800# couldn't tell me how to do it. If you look at the bottom picture it looks like the base has been removed - unless the base you are talking about is what appears to be snow.

If you are afraid to do this take it to the florist that delivered it and ask them to show you how to remove the base and replace the batteries.

1. get a sharp knife, lots of old news papers, a small garbage bag, needle nose pliers, a large screwdriver with ice, and a pair for gloves.

First if there is carpet involved or small pets or children you want to play it safe and spread out lots of old news papers. Grab a tall glass from the shelf and fix yourself a tall "screwdriver" with lots of ice.

Next put on the thin rubber gloves (so you will not break a nail or scratch your hands) then take the needle node pliers and carefully remove all the floral arrangement. Put the pieces into the garbage bag.

Third: Get your very sharp knife and carefully cut away the attached Styrofoam around the bottom of the church. Put all the foam into the small garbage bag.

Fourth: Now you should be down to the "nitty gritty" and take a good look under the church for a little trap door. Then remove the old batteries and replace them with new ones. Not just any batteries, get EverReady and you will be all set.

A florist has to make a floral arrangement. She has 6 banksias, 5 wattles and 4 waratahs. All the flowers of each kind are different. In how many ways can the florist make a bunch of 10 flowers if she has to use at least 3 of each kind?

First 3 positiion = Banksias

So 6 x 5 x 4 = 120

Second 3 Positions = Wattles

5 x 4 x 3 = 60

Third 3 Positions = Waratahs

So 4 x 3 x 2 = 24

120 x 60 x 24 = 172800

There must be 3 banksias, 2 wattles and 1 waratah left to take last position

therefore 6 ways to take last space

So 172800 x 6

= 1036800

Reply:permutations are an ordered set without repititions. combinations are an unordered set of unique combinations. For example, both 2,3,5 and 3,2,5 are acceptable subsets of a permutation. However, a combination considers these to be the same subset.

In your case, with the flowers, either the question is very simple and the answer is three, or it's very complex and I don't feel like getting into it.
Reply:Basically you need to determine how many combinations per type of flower there are. Then you know you can "combine" those seperate "choices"/combinations together to get your 10 flowers.

So (6 choose 3) = # of ways to arrange those 6 flowers (# of ways to combine them/choose)

Do the same for the other two groups of flowers (5 choose 3) and (4 choose 3).

Finally you need to select 1 flower. We have already choose 9 of the total 15, so 6 are left. So the last flower would be (6 choose 1) which is 6.

So the total number of ways to choose 10 flowers would be:

Half Whiskey Barrel Fell Apart?

I have not used my half whiskey barrell for 2 years. I was told to store it upside down so it would't fall apart. When I picked it up, the whole thing came apart. I want to put it back together, but it keeps coming apart afer a few boards are put back in. Does anyone know how to fix this. Do I need to soak the boards before I try this to get them to swell up. Any help would be appreciated.

When my Dad died I was given a floral arrangement in this barrel, so it is special and I would really like to save it if possible. Any help would be deep appreciated.

u mite need to soak the boards to get them to expand and then when soaked up enough try to put them bk together once it back to normal and the floral arrangement is in keep the wood soaked or wet it stops the boards drying out which will make the boards fall apart again. cant remember wot the opposite of expand was.

What grabs your attention when ordering flowers, color,design, what?

Ive ask that question because I am a florist and this shop has experience growth this past year.

We want to stand out in the floral industry. We offer already other free services that other shops dont offer. Such as pictures of their arrangement or gifts sent to their emails , so they can enjoy the gifts as well. This has really made a difference with our customers. Some of our customers have said they stop ordering online because they were recieving products that just wasnt what they ordered.

What grabs your attention when ordering flowers, color,design, what?
My main thing when ordering flowers is the color selection. I like deep, rich colors like pumpkin orange, chocolate brown, blood red, etc. Like fall colors, mostly.
Reply:i look for something more interesting than just flowers. a decorative vase that can be used again. maybe river rocks and twigs that can be saved after the flowers die. beautiful ribbons and bows. oh--and i hate those generic business card size greetings that come on the arangement. people will spend $50 for a nice arangement, and then they cheap out on the card! i wish there were classier choices in this area.

i really enjoy progressive, trendy looks, almost a japanese style, a feeling or emotion should be conveyed through flower arangements.

lol I always get my sisters their birthday gifts early or at least start thinking about them early on, so I'll have enough money to spend. Well, I always got my older sis (who is a libra) clothes and she seems to never think they are good enough. Last year I got her a beautiful 18K gold star charm bracelet that was over 300 dollars. Still she was not fully satisfied. So...this year I am just going to get her something different. An edible creation is an edible fruit arrangement that looks like a floral arrangement. What do you think?

Ok, so, there is this girl i really really REALLY like! but she goes to college 5 states away! :( And i tried bringing up the whole "what are we?" question, but i didnt get a clear answer (i dont think she tried to make it cloudy) and i didnt want to press it. Now she has asked me to go to her family's for thanksgiving. I already said yes, but should i like bring a floral arrangement for her mom or something? and how can a i casualy bring up the "what are we?" question without seeming like a creepy naggy guy? Reply:I think it would be nice to bring a flower arrangement for her mother, or a bottle of wine (depending on how old you are and if they are wine drinkers or not). Nothing too fancy or too costly, however.

If you want my opinion, I think you should just enjoy the time together. The more good times she has being with you (no pressure, etc.) the more things will go in your favor, if you know what I mean. Wait until a time when it is just the two of you to bring up the question again. If it isn't an answer that you are going to like, how awkward, for one, if you bring up during the middle of a Thanksgiving get-together. What we're looking at on Yahoo isn't what you're looking at, Lisa, so we can't give you measurements that are accurate.

But this may help you figure it out.

Picas and points are measurements--like inches, yards and miles are measurements, but smaller. There are 6 picas in every inch or 72 points in an inch. So for question #5 (I'll take the easy one first), measure the width of your line of text --(let's say it's 2 inches) then multiply by 6 to get the number of picas (2 x 6 = 12 picas). In question 5, answer B would be exactly 3 inches in length and D would be about 4 1/3". I'll let you work out the other two.

Question 6 is easy: look at your sample paragraph. If the words all line up down the right side of the page, but zigzag down the left edge, it's A. Answer B is the opposite: words line up on left side of the page, but don't on the right.

If they don't line up on either side, go with answer C and if they line up evenly on both sides, the paragraph is fully justified (D).

No one can give you a definite answer for Questions 3 and 4 because only you can see the actual type in your question. But here's a suggestion for Question 3: in MS Word or another word processing program, choose a font like Ariel with a type size of 10. Type in and print out your paragraph and see how it matches up. Does the font look similar? If not, try another, such as Times New Roman.

Reply:if you want nice flowers on some important tables like parents tables or immediate family you can use your bridesmaids bouquets for small centerpieces. this is a really useful and frugal way to reduce the number of centerpieces you need to buy/create and if you have a large wedding party or a small guest list you can really save money this way!

Reply:One idea I saw on here for a cinderella theme wedding was to use ceramic pumpkins. The girl painted them and then she sprayed them with glitter spray. Then you could use glitter, votives, etc around this. I thought that was a unique idea.

Phone Won't Stop Ringing?

Here's What You Do

Leola Starling of Ribrock, Tenn., had a serious telephone problem. But unlike most people she did something about it.

The brand-new $10 million Ribrock Plaza Motel opened nearby and had acquired almost the same telephone number as Leola.

From the moment the motel opened, Leola was besieged by calls not for her. Since she had the same phone number for years, she felt that she had a case to persuade the motel management to change its number.

Naturally, the management refused claiming that it could not change its stationery.

The phone company was not helpful, either. A number was a number, and just because a customer was getting someone else's calls 24 hours a day didn't make it responsible. After her pleas fell on deaf ears, Leola decided to take matters into her own hands.

At 9 o'clock the phone rang. Someone from Memphis was calling the motel and asked for a room for the following Tuesday. Leoloa said, "No problem. How many nights?"

A few hours later Dallas checked in. A secretary wanted a suite with two bedrooms for a week. Emboldened, Leola said the Presidential Suite on the 10th floor was available for $600 a night. The secretary said that she would take it and asked if the hotel wanted a deposit. "No, that won't be necessary," Leola said. "We trust you."

The next day was a busy one for Leola. In the morning, she booked an electric appliance manufacturers' convention for Memorial Day weekend, a college prom and a reunion of the 82nd Airborne veterans from World War II.

She turned on her answering machine during lunchtime so that she could watch her favorite soap opera, but her biggest challenge came in the afternoon when a mother called to book the ballroom for her daughter's wedding in June.

Leola assured the woman that it would be no problem and asked if she would be providing the flowers or did she want the hotel to take care of it. The mother said that she would prefer the hotel to handle the floral arrangements. Then the question of valet parking came up. Once again Leola was helpful. "There's no charge for valet parking, but we always recommend that the client tips the drivers."

Within a few months, the Ribrock Plaza Motel was a disaster area.

People kept showing up for weddings, bar mitzvahs, and Sweet Sixteen parties and were all told there were no such events.

Leola had her final revenge when she read in the local paper that the motel might go bankrupt. Her phone rang, and an executive from Marriott said, "We're prepared to offer you $200,000 for the motel."

Leola replied. "We'll take it, but only if you change the telephone number."

Serioulsy though if i were that woman then yes i would do that out of anger. why? because us little people are always put 2nd place by large corporate companies who only pay attention to us when we are fillig thier pockets.

The issue should have been resovled at the start and the hotel should have changed their number. thats such a simple thing to do. Tackling a huge company like that is not something that anyone does.

I think the hotel got what they desrved if its a true story. The only sad thing is that there were innocent victims who should not have suffered.

would get annoyed with having to tell the calling party that

the number was not for the party they were seeking, but a

private residence instead. I eventually called the phone co.

and asked that they straighten it out. Apparently it was a

phone book error.

To make our Favors %26amp; order of events programs

I need to find a decanter set for our sand ceremony

I also need to have a manicure, pedicure and have my hair trimmed and the roots redone but is there any other little things that you wished you'd done or you forgot?

Every bride i've been around was completely dressed for the last 2 months before the big day but I don't feel overly stressed except for when my mother starts taking over.. but i feel like i'm forgetting something?!?

Never underestimate the importance of lists. Here's a short little list of lists you should have ready for the big day:

1. Schedule of events just to have an idea of if you're staying on track all day (hair/makeup appointments, pictures, pre-ceremony rituals, cocktail hour, reception, cake-cutting, etc)

2. List of pictures you want photographer to be sure to get (groups of people, special moments, etc.).

3. List of songs for band/DJ (and a list they should NOT play!)

-Also, you may want to get envelopes %26amp; $ for tips for all your vendors ready so you can hand them to them discreetly the day of. Also make sure there aren't any outstanding balances with any of those vendors (some need to be paid in full before the wedding).

My centerpieces will be very small, very simple floral arrangements. I want to put small candles around the centerpieces. I don't know whether I will use tealights or votives, but I will probably prefer votives if I can find some inexpensive holders. I don't care if they weren't actually made to hold candles, as long as they are the appropriate size. I probably need about 75 to 100. Clear glass is preferred. I know I'll only use these once, so can someone tell me where I can get some at an inexpensive price?

I got some tealight holders at IKEA for .25 each (I think). I also got a huge container of tealights for just a few dollars.

Also post on websites like www.freecycle.com (people give away stuff they don't want/use) and ask family and friends to borrow theirs. You may end up spending some time to clean out old wax but if you are truly on a budget this can help.

The other great thing about getting them from a store (wait for a 40-50% candle sale at places like Hobby Lobby and you can get them for about .15 cents each!) is that when you load up the cart with 200 votives the salespeople usually give up counting and sometimes it can work in your favor.

Just read in my local paper that the winner of the Ms Cheapo contest is a budget minded bride...she went around the day before her wedding to all the local funeral parlours and collected all the floral arrangements being discarded....she %26amp; her sister re-did them for her wedding......she also bought a discounted white prom dress to wear and held her ceremony/reception in a park where a swing band was performing, so her music was free.....have no idea what was on the menu, tho....your thoughts? And does any thrifty bride out there have some tips of her own? Would be great to share them....

How Budget Minded Is This For a Wedding?
Oh, wow, I think she's brilliant! But then again, anyone who's seen most of what I answer realizes that I'm doing things way cheap myself.

I don't think I could do the funeral flowers because I'm the kind of person who's very embarassed to ask for things. Not because they're creepy. I mean, if I were driving by a dumpster late at night and no one was around and I couldn't be seen...I could take them, I'm sure. But I don't generally want anyone to actually know how hard things are.

I've known of lots of cases where people have used white prom gowns, and I've seen lots of them that look just like wedding dresses (so much so that I've wondered why people want to wear something that looks like a wedding dress to a prom).

The band thing...awesome!

I'm doing all my own flowers (silk), and got a gorgeous dress and gorgeous rings off eBay. (I know a lot of people are hesitant to go that route, but my experiences were good...did my research before doing it, though.) For food we're ordering platters/buying stuff ready made from the Wal-mart deli and bakery, and skipping alcohol at the reception (wedding is at a public park, so alcohol isn't allowed anyway). I did my own invites with pretty blank-inside notecards, colored paper, and tracing paper. Yes, tracing paper! It looks just like rice paper and is so very much cheaper. I just stumbled into that idea by good fortune...I couldn't find rice paper in my small town anywhere, happened to see a $2.00 pad of tracing paper, and realized it would work great. I probably spent $15.00 on the invites at most.

I'm particularly proud of my idea for the cake. I've gotten thumbs down for it before, but I know it will work. I've made wedding cakes for people before, but I don't want to put the time into doing my own, so we're getting half, quarter, and eight sheet cakes from the Wal-mart bakery (it has some really pretty design options, too) and stacking them myself. I'm getting them with no top borders, so they'll look right. The only thing I'm a little worried about is the cake boards showing, but depending on how bad that will be I think I can take care of it with either some flowers to fill in the gaps or an X-acto knife to trim the boards and a little white icing to "paint" over the cut marks. Obviously I'm hoping I can do it with the flowers; that would be simpler.

The only flowers I plan on having are bouquets I'm making myself after buying some flowers from the grocery store (much cheaper than going to a florist). My dress I found is only $299...it's the T8778 from David's Bridal. I'm making cupcakes instead of buying a cake. And for music instead of using a DJ I'll use an iTunes playlist on my ipod.

Too many people go way overboard for 1 day-competing for who has the best center pieces LOL! Sure for some the day is something they will always remember-but for half of the weddings they end in divorce-not trying to rain on anyone's parade but that's just the way it is. The fanciest most expensive wedding I ever went to-they were done in 8 months....WOW.

So go to bridal expos and sign up for everything! they have drawings for free products and money off limo services etc.

The person they were originally for doesn't need them anymore and to look at it from a different perspective If I died and people sent flowers I would be honored if someone wanted to use them and not just throw them away, give them a second chance to enjoy their day of blooming for a festive occasion! :)

That being said.....it is a little creepy!

I did a wedding where the theme was "garden wedding". we went to the local farmers market 2 days before the wedding about bought $100 worth of $5 bunches of all kinds of flowers.

We rounded up as many vases we had from home and yard sales/thrift shops and just bunched together flowers to look like they were just picked out of a garden and put in a vase. The bouquets were just a small bunch with the stems tied with pretty ribbon. The bouts were just a flower... each guy had a different one pinned to his coat. For the reception we just did cake and punch with some nuts, mints, fruit,and veggies platters with lemonade , iced tea, coffee and tea for the beverages. We didn't have tables but had chairs arranged in small clusters for conversation with potted plants from family members homes and a few ficus trees placed around. The brides mother brought over their garden fountain and it was used as a wishing well. The total cost for the wedding, including the $350 dress was $980.

It was one of the most memorable weddings I have helped with. Something about the focus being on the vows etc and not much n fancy impressing of the guests!

Reply:Talk about recycling! Funeral flowers are a little over the edge and sort of creepy. But you have to give Ms. Cheapo credit for her ingenuity and resourcefulness.

Every bridal salon has sale dresses and there are white or ivory dresses that are always on sale that will work for under a hundred dollars. eBay is a great source for wedding goodies, as is the Dollar stores and garage sales.

I know of a bride who went to garage sales and purchased vases for a dime. She cleaned them up and put in a variety flowers from her garden. Her cost? Practically nothing for her reception centerpieces.

Reply:I think the funeral flowers thing is a little too far. But I'm also creeped out by estate sales. I don't like pawing through dead people's things. Creepy. Buy silk flowers from Walmart if you want flowers that badly.

As for the Prom dress thing, why not? Many dresses are starting to look like wedding gowns - namely Prom dresses, Quinceneara gowns and Debutante gowns. I have a friend who looked more like a bride at her Debutante ball than I did at my wedding.

My first tip is the venue. Don't get married in some super pricey hotel that charges $230 per person for a plated dinner.

Cut the guest list. Don't invite every person from your graduating class and wind up with a 500-person guest list comprised mostly of people you don't know. This isn't Myspace.

Consider your food options, time of day and day of the week. As a hint, most wedding vendors have caught on to the "have a Sunday wedding, it's cheaper" trend and now have the same prices for Sunday as for Saturday.

Go silk. Flowers, that is.

Limit or eradicate alcohol. As an experienced wedding patron, I will say only this: any guest who needs alcohol to have a good time at your wedding is an alcoholic and that isn't your problem.

Don't buy customized napkins, matchboxes, napkin rings, whatever. It's all a waste of money. No one cares about the monogrammed tissue boxes.

And of course, you could always do the cheapest option available: elope!
Reply:I've gone around and gotten funeral flowers to redo for shut-ins so using them for a wedding seems like a good idea to me if you don't mind a mismatched arrangements because you'll get all kinds and colors of flowers. In the park with a swing band sounds great too! I don't think I would do a discounted white prom dress though.

We made our centerpieces using potted mini rose bushes, votive candles and fabric that I painted with glitter stars. We made cookbooks from recipes that our guests contributed for the main favor. I made my own pew bows from navy blue ribbon with silver flecks on it. I designed and made my own dress. Purchased the lace online and hand beaded it myself which saved a lot of money because that's the labor intensive part. I bought a pair of canvas tennis shoes for $3.99 took some of the extra lace, beaded it and put it on the toe, side and heel of the shoe to make my wedding tennies.

Instead of using a limo, you can rent your favorite car for the day. You can rent a foam cake that's iced from a baker. It has a small section that has a cake in it for you to cut and then there are sheet cakes in the back that are cut for the guests. Use flowers that are in season to save money.

Co-Ed wedding shower problems with the bride-to-be.?

I decided to have a wedding shower for my husband's cousin and his soon -to-be new wife. I let them know last year in October as soon as they announced their engagement that I wanted 2 have a co-ed shower for them. Problem is that NONE of the bride's family or girlfriends have planned any showers or parties for her and as a result the bride 2 be is wanting to invite ALL of her friends, family and everyone else in addition 2 the people that I had ALREADY planned to invite. I am related 2 the groom and do not know the bride or her friends.ALSO, no one else is offering to go in with me to be able to provide for the EXTRA guests or to go in and rent a banquet hall, since I had planned on hosting an at-home shower with about 30 people invited. I will be the sole one prepairing the food,decorations, designing the floral arrangements and everything in between. I feel very much taken advantaged of. Also, their shower date is in only a few short weeks away. Please guys,got any good advice 4 me?

As another mentioned, you need to advise the bride that you are hosting this shower in your home (be firm that no halls will be rented) and have a list of 30 people from your side of the family that you will be inviting. She just needs to advise her relatives that the shower you are throwing is only for the groom's family. If they wanted a shower for their family, then they can make arrangements for that shower.

Edited to add: It really is a courtesy to ask the bride for a guest list, it's not a requirement. It's also customary in many families that each one hosts a shower for their side and it's a bit presumptuous of the bride to assume that she can invite her entire family to a shower being hosted by the groom's male cousin and his wife.

Seriously, the bridesmaids would normally host the shower for everyone else. I would probably mention this to the bride and let her discuss it with her friends and family.

Reply:If I was you, I would just be honest with her. It is customary for the hostess to ask for a guestlist from the bride, including names and addresses. I would ask her for a guestlist and I would explain that I have limited space and resources since I alone am hosting the shower, I am unable to accomodate more than 30 guests.

Another option is to contact the maid of honor and bridesmaids and ask if they would like to be co-hostesses. Since it is for both men and women, ask the groom's attendents, also.

Does your church have a "Fellowship Hall" or any kind of meeting rooms? If so, you may be able to use that rent free, then just provide the food and some flower arrangements for the tables.

Reply:Not everyone has, nor wants, loads of showers. As host, it is your responsibility to make sure the bride gives you a list of who she wants there. It is not your decision on who is allowed to attend. You can't invite your friends, just people on her list. If it is a space issue, tell the bride your home can fit a certain amount of people. So get the list, send out the invitations and organize this with the wedding party. As the host, you need to step up, get your can in gear and plan a great party for your cousin and his wife.

The home is the place where people live, store items, and find shelter. It is also where our domestic affections are centered, where the householder’s personality is reflected in a contained space. Home is where outside matters can leave us to focus on we care about most. Scott Fitzgerald's book, The Great Gatsby, contains a fictional story by about the decline of the American dream. The characters, Jay Gatsby, Nick Caraway, the Buchanan’s, and the Wilsons all keep homes that reflect their unique characters. Since many key events are chronicled in the homes of the persons, each dwelling is crucial to understanding the setting, story and disposition of the each person in the novel.

The book is set in New York. The majority of the homes are placed on West Egg, "a slender riotous island which extends itself due east of New York". The origin of its name comes from the placement of two egg-shaped islands outside of New York that are parallel to each other on east and west ends. West egg is home to those who have recently come into great wealth, because of this they spend their money frivolously, engage in loose conduct, and have few worries in life. Gatsby and Nick live here. Yet, Nick is the only one who describes it as the “least fashionable of the two”, because of the garish taste of its residents. East egg is where Tom and Daisy Buchanan live. Nick Caraway describes the homes there as “… white palaces of fashionable East egg...”

Nick Caraway, the narrator of the story, lives in West Egg, (at the very tip), in between two much more expensive homes. As a young man (he turns thirty during the course of the novel) from Minnesota, Nick travels to New York in 1922 to learn the bond business. On his right was Gatsby’s home, of which he had a partial view of his lawn. But Gatsby wasn’t the only one richer than him, he was surrounded by millionaires. His home was nothing in comparison to their large mansions. He had ‘a weather beaten bungalow’ that cost eighty dollars a month. Like Nick, the house is small, aging, overlooked, modest, and quiet. His neighbor Mr. Gatsby had weekly parties that lasted till the next morning. But Nick’s house was only visited a few times by Gatsby and had one occasion when he had his cousin and Gatsby over for tea. As his home had been overlooked so had he, but his quiet reflective attitude also made him the perfect candidate for a narrator. Everyone he meets seems to tell him information he did not ask for or did not even want to know.

Whereas Nick is modest, his neighbor, Jay Gatsby, is the complete opposite. Mr. Gatsby owns a home that is “a colossal affair by any standard.” Nick describes it as being an imitation of Hotel de Ville in Normandy. Hotel de Ville is French for, “city hall”, so one could imagine how massive the building was. Gatsby’s house had a brand new tower on one side, under a thin bed of ivy, a marble swimming pool, and more than forty acres of greenery. The whole front of the house is positioned to catch the light. Yet it only took him three years to make the money to buy it. It was filled with, “period bed rooms swathed in silk and floral arrangements, dressing rooms, pool rooms and bathrooms with sunken baths.” Gatsby’s bedroom had a bath with a study area and cupboard in the wall. His own residence was actually quite modest, as the most expensive items were a grooming set on his dresser, which was plated in dull gold. Gatsby’s personal room reveals a lot about his character. His room is simple, yet he keeps a monstrous mansion filled with people. He throws parties, yet doesn’t mingle with the guests. He has a great deal of wealth yet very few know where it really comes from. This shows how he is putting on a sort of façade to impress someone though he only needs little. Nick noted that his “…personality is an unbroken series of gestures.” Nick soon finds out that Gatsby has acquired everything to impress Daisy who did not marry him previously because he was not rich. But rather than move on Jay has tried to recreate the past, which is not possible.

In East egg, Daisy, along with her husband Tom, and their child, lives in a cheerful red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion overlooking the bay. Their lawn starts at the beach and ends at the front door. The greenery wrapped around the sides of the building. In front was a line of French windows, coated in a reflective gold. There is an assortment of expensive furniture within their home but not much else is explained about the Buchanan’s home in detail. Like their home they are consumed with wealth but have little regard for others. Both husband and wife have affairs. Daisy has a new relationship with Gatsby, and Tom has had many affairs and was recently with his mechanics wife.

Between New York and West Egg lies a desolate land. Nick describes this location as, “a place where ash grows like wheat.” This point is the residence of George and Myrtle Wilson. They live in George’s shop, where he serves gas to Tom whenever they go out to the city. Their home is not even described in detail because of its insignificance. The whole area is described as being made of ash. The only distinctive object is a billboard for an oculist, which has a pair of eyes with large spectacles that seems to watch the valley, which may be a metaphor for God. Obviously this is the flux of poor people left from the figurative burning of money buy the rich. And this reflects its owner perfectly. George is a simple man, but he is overly submissive, and lacks the colorful character that the others possess. His wife, Myrtle, longs to escape this grey land and looks forward to each meeting with her affair, Tom.

Throughout the book the great Gatsby homes play a crucial role in telling the story. The author mentions in fragments details about each dwelling which is placed each time at the proper moment of present action, for maximum effectiveness. The homes kept by the persons involved reinforce the established personalities of the characters. Gatsby is eventually assassinated in his marble pool, by Myrtles husband after Daisy runs over her in Gatsby’s car. The façade created Mr. Gatsby is shown to be superficial when no one comes his funeral, but his home revealed this previously by the number of people who are there as moochers, leeching off Gatsby’s wealth but not proving to be true friends. The Buchanan’s retreat back into their carefree lifestyle and Nick returns to the Midwest where he is more accustomed.

How can I improve my essay?
I feel that your essay was very well thought out and provided evidence, but may be considered too simplistic. I think the only thing you could do to make your essay stronger is to change your wording up a bit. Make it much more complex. Trying using an online thesaurus to make smaller words seem more effective. I tried to help you get what I am saying but changing your first paragraph up a bit. Here it goes:

buy a dress

pay the ceremony fee for the church

rent a reception site

have floral arrangements

have a photgrapher

have enough hor d'ourves and wedding cake for 50-60 people.

Am I missing anything? Is it a bad idea to get a loan for just a one-day celebration that might take 3 or more years to pay off?

What are the basics?

A bride - check

A groom - check

Someone to officiate the wedding. That's it! The rest is "fluff".

Now...here is the way I figure it, going down your list:

Invitations: Do you live by a Michael's, Target, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Office Max, Staples? All of these stores sell "boxed sets" of BEAUTIFUL invitations. You get 50 in a box for about $25. You simply print them up on your computer.

Ok - so invitations $26 (with tax)...+ stamps $20 (that would be if you were mailing ALL 50, which you probably would not need to). Save your money and DO NOT do RSVP's, unless you really think it's necessary.

(Invites and stamps) = $46

Dress: Allow $200 for the dress and shoes! You can find beautiful dresses online at Target.com (yes, Target!) or JCPenney.com

Do you like "vintage" dreses? Some vintage wedding dresses on Ebay go for $10!! They are so pretty! You can update them a little by removing the sleeves!

Shoes....go to a Payless

Groom: $100 for a tux

Ceremony: I'm not sure what the church fee would be. Do you belong to a church? Most do NOT charge if you are a member....it's just the honorarium that you pay the pastor. Say allow $100 for the pastor. Perhaps the pastor would be willing to lower his fee if you explain your fianancial situation.

Reception: now here is where you can really save. If you do belong to a church, or know of a church that you can use....do they have a fellowship hall that you can use for a reception? I work as a church secretary (Lutheran Church) and most churches do have facilities like this.

What I would do would be to have an early afternoon wedding...say 2 p.m. and have a small reception after with "finger foods" of finger sandwiches, assorted cheeses and crackers, fruit tray, veggie tray, nuts, cake, punch and coffee. All of this to feed 50-60 people will NOT be a lot of money. Do all the food yourself. If you have family that will help...let them!

Do you know of someone that can bake? See if they would be willing to make a cake. OR....go to a Walmart, Costco, Sams Club, or a bakery in a grocery store....LOTS cheaper than a regular bakery and the cakes are soooo good!

OR....another "alternative" reception would be to again have your wedding at 2 p.m., and then have a "dessert" reception. Cake, of course...but mabe also some bars, like lemon bars, brownies, some cookies, cheesecake bars, etc. You could also add some fruit. Serve with cofee, tea and punch! Easy!

Floral arrangements: Again, do you live by a Walmart or Costco? Walmart is my favorite place for flowers! You can get a dozen roses for $10. And....you can special order certain colors! Is anyone in your family good with flowers? See if they would be willing to help you.

Here is a picture that I have given others.....about 1/2 way down on this page....on the left...look at the caption titled "pink roses to carry" it's 3 simple roses and some greens, tied with a satin ribbon. This is SO EASY to do yourself!!! Have a small bouquet like this for you and one for your maid of honor. It's also easy to make a simple boutonniere for your groom and best man too. Look online for directions. Basically, you simply cut off the thorns, cut down the stem, push a wire into the stem, wrap it in floral tape (sold at craft stores like Michael's and also at Walmart) and your done! (The picture is of pink roses, but, of course, you can use whatever color YOU like.)

Decorations: Keep things simple. It is more elegant that way. If you do have a reception at the church, perhaps they have linens you can use. If you have 60 people with 6 at a table...that is 10 tables that you need (or less). Do you have a Family Dollar store by you? They have tablecloths for $5 each!

Use simple and easy table centerpieces. Get a round glass vase (sold at Michael's, Walmart, Dollar Tree)....some glass "vase gems", fill the vase about 2/3 with water and put a few floating candles in them. All of the above items can be purchased at dollar stores...so the total cost for each table would be $3.

I hope I have given you some alternatives to think about. Really, I think you can do this for less than $1,000. You just really need to think of what is important. Also...if ANYONE is willing to help...let THEM!!

Oh...I forgot about the photographer.....DO get a photographer. That is ONE thing I would spend money on.

Everything can come in cheaper if you are willing to look around and go "outside the box" of what the bridal industry tells you that you HAVE to have. Use Google to search for inexpensive ideas.

Reply:Try to save a little while longer and do it without the loan. If you can't save money then you can't manage a loan especially as there will be interest on top of the amount you borrow.

Your budget sounds reasonable and not over the top.

Maybe ask a parent to loan the money to you, usually they are more understanding than the banks if you miss a payment :) Also they may not ask for interest.
Reply:Taking a loan to pay for your wedding is a bad way to start your married life and your marital finances. Save up until you have enough. Soon enough you're going to have auto payments and a mortgage. It's best to get in the habit early of not buying what you don't have the cash to pay for. It doesn't sound like a good idea to saddle yourself with a loan payment so early in your marriage. I would save up and avoid having to pay interest.

If $4000 is what you want to spend you can do it for $4000. It will just require more work on your part to comparison shop for everything! It can be done.

For the other things, get a family member to do photos, keep your flowers simple. As for location, maybe there's a church hall or community centre you could use, or even someone's home.

The big ceremony isn't what matters anyway. I've never understood the need for a huge celebration when you barely even know half the people there. Reply:Don't get a loan! Just be creative. Instead of a big fancy reception, have a barbecue in someone's back yard or a pavilion at a park. I know a lot of people who did this, and said it was just as special as a typical reception. A barbecue would be definitely be cheaper then hor d'ourves. Also, you don't have to go to a fancy wedding cake. My sister had her cake made by the grocery store bakery and no one could tell. The dress? Look to a department store. The white party dresses there are generally under $200, much less expensive than bridal dresses. Or, just get a white or an ivory bridesmaid dress (also much cheaper).

Remember, the day is about you and your future husband's union, not the money spent.

I am having large casual outdoor summer wedding in black, ivory, and red. There is a velvet burnout on the dress of floral arrangements. Should I have my bridesmaides carry an arrangement that matches the sillouette on their dresses or is it too faint to notice and won't matter?

I would suggest going with the same shape as the bouquets on the dress, but the actually flowers really aren't a big deal. It's to hard to really tell what they would be anyway.

I would probably have the bridesmaids bouquets red (roses for instance) with a hint of white or ivory (dipped by the florist). Hopefully your groomsmen are wearing black tux. The bouquets could just be a nice mix of pretty colors and assorted types of flowers, it would look pretty with a red dress.

Reply:It's not to faint to notice I actually think it the highlight of the dress but I don't think people will pay that much attention to the pattern to see if it clashes with the flowers or not. I say go with whatever you want.
Reply:It's hard to tell from the picture, but it doesn't look real pronounced on the dress, unless you really look at it. I don't think it's enough so that the bouquets should match. It might even look a little weird if you tried to match them exactly. Maybe stick with them being basically round, but besides that, I wouldn't worry about it.

What can I give to a family at a funeral besides flowers and/or food?

The father of a very good family friend passed away yesterday. The initial discussion was to do a nice floral arrangement, as they have done that in the past for my family. However, I just don't want to spend $75 on a bouquet that will die. And I'm not a fan of silk arrangements either.

The family won't need food... they are active in a lot of groups that have already offered to provide meals for a few weeks.

There is no mention of providing a donation to a charity, so that's out.

The man's hobbies included oil painting; woodworking; fishing; watching his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandson’s athletic events; basketball; decorating for Christmas; and working in his yard.

Any suggestions on something we could do that would be more long-lasting and memorable (for his family, not for our gift).

What can I give to a family at a funeral besides flowers and/or food?
If you don't want to do a flower arrangement to send to the wake, it's usually traditional to send a PLANT instead (not flowers). You can find BEAUTIFUL peace lilies online. They're really durable, and don't take a green thumb to take care of. They're also beautiful.

You can also send a fruit basket instead of sending "food".

Really anything you do will be appreciated. Don't worry about what other people are doing. I would probably go with the plant.

Reply:If there is no charity to donate to, pick one and put it in the deceased name anyway. Example: is there a charity Home Depot or Lowes does things for; because he was handy and things. Find out what organizations they are affilated with and donate to them in his memory and make sure the family sees it.

Also, waiting and then doing something kind after the funeral is long over with is an excellent way to show you care after everyone has forgotten.
Reply:you have two options: either phone the family and ask what organization to donate to in the man's memory, or send a check to them with a note saying you wanted to contribute to ease their loss and didn't know what they needed at this time of their loss. (with the money they could pay for Masses in the future if they are catholic, they could put it toward the funeral or expenses they incurred, they could donate it to offset the guys income with regard to his final IRS form, etc. and you could use that as a donation on your income taxes)
Reply:Usually a nice family photo with him in. If you can get it enlarge and framed in a quality frame. People will be able to remember the happy moment the photo was taken for many years to come.

I did a similar thing when a very close uncle died, my auntie still keep the photo on show on her mantle piece 8 years later.
Reply:...Hmm, you could find a local painter to have his portret painted in oil - add a custom wood carved frame and don't make it too big, like in the old days, just dainty enough as not too be cumbersome in the future. At the funeral just let them know you are preparing a special gift that takes a little time to deliver and offer a smaller arrengement with a sympathy card.

If oil painting is not an otion then invest in a quality enlargement (again, not too big) and real expensive carved wood frame from a pro, custom framing services, they do an excelent job!

Also, since he had so many hobbies, you may want to consider donating some money to a local public library to purchase library books in his memory. The library normally places a book plaque in the front of the book saying "Donated in the memory of...."

Since he had so many hobbies, asking the library to buy books in his hobby areas would be nice.

Another idea would be to donate money to the great-grandson's school (maybe the athletic department?).

Reply:Maybe you could make a donation in his name to a local organization he enjoyed - like the athletic boosters, the garden league, or a local marina. When my grandmother died, a friend gave us a hydrangea which we planted. It reminds us of her every time it blooms.
Reply:We felt the same way when my grandmother died, no need for a bunch of flowers so we asked that people make a donation in her name at her 2 favorite charities. You say that donations are out, but you could find something in the woodworking or oil painting world that you could donate the money to in his name. Or you could just give the donation for them at the funeral. People give money at funerals too. Normally it goes to help pay for the funeral.

Using tall approx 3 ft tower vases. The floral arrangement on top will be like a hugh topiary. It is approx. 22 wide and 18 inches high with silk rose flowers 9 and 7 inches tall. The greenery will be 11 and 9 inches in length. I also used the pick or stem machine on the stems of the flowers. I am not a florist I just like messing with flowers but, I wasn't sure if the roses and greenery would hold their shape. I have done one and I feel like the very tope of the topiary seems to be drooping a little bit. I know I could always reform the flowers right before the wedding But, if that is the case I would probably wait and complete the arrangements about a week before the wedding.

You most certainly can if done correctly. You said you picked the flower stems which is the first step. The next requirement is the medium you used to put the flowers into. Did you use Oasis? the new oasis like material for artificial flowers? You will have the best luck if you use Styrofoam. It comes in green and many sizes and shapes. You can do flowers months and months ahead with Styrofoam. I would wait until 2-3 weeks before the wedding if using a softer material. Its like embroidery, it is very important to use the correct materials to get the best quality. I managed a flower shop for many years so I have done this many times. I even did one this way and adhered it to my parents gravestone and it still looks beautiful. LOL Joni B

This sounds like they are wanting you to use Pythagoreans theorem here. So you would do 40 squared + 18 squared = x and then find the square root of x

y=125+60x If I remember correctly slope-intercept form is y=mx+b, so that form should be correct.

i have often wondered.....do people who are adamantly against homosexuality set aside thier views when they are ready to be entertained? i dont mean to offend (as i may be offering a huge generality in indicating that many in the art world are gay, or at the very least, very open minded!)

i am a heterosexual artist, but i have some very talanted gay friends who are some of the most creative people i have met.i thank god for the diversity that makes up the face of art in its many forms!

back to my question......do you think the people who are most judgemental in this world, set thier judgements aside when its time to be entertained, have thier homes decorated, want a beautiful floral arrangement, or have a wonderful new hairstyle?

I'd think they'd have to put all that hate aside sometimes... you can't avoid us forever. And without us, yes, what a plain, ugly and boring world it would be.

Elana Elbogen, a litigator at Kelley Drye in New York, married David Glatt at Cipriani 42nd St. this summer. She wasn’t happy with the floral arrangements. So she sued.

In a breach-of-contract lawsuit filed Friday against Posy Floral Design Studios in New York state court, Elbogen alleges that the florist substituted pastel pink and green hydrangeas for the dark rust and green hydrangeas that she had specified for the centerpieces. Other issues, says the lawsuit: “using wilted and/or browned flowers, leaving the event without filling half the centerpiece vases with water, and using dusty and dirty vases.” Here are stories from the NYT and NY Post.

“The use of predominantly pastel centerpieces had a significant impact on the look of the room and was entirely inconsistent with the vision the plaintiffs had bargained for,” says the lawsuit, according to the Times. They paid in advance for the flowers, which cost — yikes! — $27,435.14. After the wedding, they asked for a $4,000 refund. Now, they’re asking for $400,000 in damages.

If you pay that much for the flowers at your wedding you deserve to get what you asked for. If what she says is true, and if she did ask for just $4000 back and the florist refused to consider it, well... A wedding is really important and wilted and brown flowers in the wrong colours would be very upsetting. And sometimes you have to ask for more than you really want just to get what you deserve. I hate that people now days tend to sue at the drop of a hat, but if someone won't negotiate and they are in the wrong, what other choice is there. Role over and play dead? Let people walk all over you? The florist contracted to perform a service and did not live up to her end of the deal.

I like doing so many things, I can type quick, I can read well, I'm good at making wedding announcements, and floral arangements, I can do solon style nails basically I can do it all except find the perfect decuation path. My husband is going to school to get his degree so he can teach i'm 23 going on 24 years old and I'm still playing with the Idea of what I wanna be when I grow up!! I see my self in my own shop making my own floral arrangements, but then again I would like a job where I can Make wedding announcements, and or birthday inviations, but then I wan to do nails !!! I need some help any advice anybody? And please dont nock me while I'm down I need some considerable advice!

I totally understand! I am a marketing major and I still don't know what I want to do. I am 21 and have changed my major 7 times in 2 years. Anyway, if you love all 3 things then maybe you can open your own shop. Do nails on certain days and flowers and invitations on other days. But, most the time to do nails you need to go to beauty school so that you are considered a pro. Maybe you could find a job at a flower place or a wedding store and see if you really love it! Its okay, i know people who are in their 40's and still don't know what they want to be when they grow up! Good luck!
Reply:Go try the nail thing first, and if it doesn't work out, do the flower thing. You can incorporate the wedding announcements thing into the flower thing, and then go into a specialty with wedding planners.
Reply:If you're thinking about school think a business degree. It is so versatile and you can use it to open up your own floral arrangement/nail salon that makes wedding invitations!

Otherwise just pick one choice and try it see if you like it, if you don't try another one. At least you have several talents to fall back on.
