How much did you pay someone to decorate your reception hall?

The lady is charging me $700 to decorate my hall. Is that too much, that's just completely out of my budget. But, I want it to be decorated really pretty.

The reception decorations would include 1. a centerpiece for each guest table 2. A similar but larger centerpiece for the head table; 3. white china dishes for the head table (for each setting - dinner plate, salad plate, water glass, wine glass, 2 silver forks, one silver knife and one silver spoon); 4. white linen table cloths for every table; 5. clear disposable plates for your guest; 6. clear knives, spoons, and forks for you guest (each set will be rolled in a paper napkin and tied with a tulip colored ribbon); 7. floral arrangements and greenery for the buffet table; 8. linen dinner napkins for the head table

Tulip is my color (just for reference)

Sounds like a good deal of the centerpieces and head table piece are real flowers!

Not such a great deal if they are fake...
Reply:is she providing the clean-up as well? are the floral arrangements from your florist and she is arranging them or is she providing them?

I would say unless she is doing cleanup AND providing the flowers herself (no florist) she is charging a bit much, but you must take into consideration where you live as well... if you live in NY prices are alot higher than if you live in Omaha, NE - for example.
Reply:I'm not paying anyone to decorate my hall. That is what my sisters are for! lol

Seriously, though, usually the bridal party decorates the night before, or possibly the morning of the event. I'm not having a bridal party (as we're having a tiny destination wedding), but I am having a reception 2 weeks after we return. My sisters, brother and parents will be decorating the hall...which should be pretty easy since it's the weekend before Halloween and it's a costume ball. We got a bunch of cheap decorations that look awesome.

Hopefully you can find a cheap way to decorate your hall...because that lady is insane!
Reply:I'm paying $1000, that includes linens, china, silver wear and chair covers. I have to bring the center pieces and he will setup. So it sounds like you got a good deal.
Reply:I didnt My mom %26amp; my sister decorated it for me for free! :)
Reply:If the flowers are real, then thats a steal! Im paying over 5000 for a decorator to come decorate, tables chairs, including linens, and flowers.
Reply:Sounds like way too much. By the way, tulip is a flower, not a colour.
Reply:Tulip is a flower, not a color...but as for the money-arrangements are expensive. Are you paying her for the arragnements and decorating or just decorating. If it is just decorating, then get someone you know to do it for cheaper. Just find a friend who likes that kind of stuff and offer them a couple of hundred dollars.
Reply:My decorating for the hall was included in the overall reception site. The decorations were provided by my florist and my mom (who made most of them). A friend of mine is getting married wants to use an outside decorator for the hall and they are charging an extra fee that is outrageous.
Reply:I agree- if she supplies the flowers it's an ok price but just to decorate-- OUCH!!

Ask a family member or have friends do it for free..... I sure they would love to help.

My cater does all that for me... so included in the $10,000
Reply:How many guests are you having? If this is a small wedding, it sounds like you're overpaying, but if it's even 100 people, I think it's a reasonable price because the flowers alone could set you back at least $500 for 8 guest tables and the head table. Also, you have to figure that disposibles are going to cost at least a dollar per person for the plates, glasses, dessert plates, silverware, etc.

Congratulations!
Reply:You could always do it yourself. I had about that much for my wedding and on the day before the wedding my bridal party and I went and decorated. I got there early and set up a table how I wanted it and when everyone got there they used the table for reference. Not only was it FREE but we all had a great time too.

But If you really want to pay for her I don't think that is bad price.
