My mom and I sat down and came up with this centerpiece today as an option for my upcoming October wedding. It is a "funkin" (fake pumpkin) with leaves carved into it, a fake flower floral arrangement at the top, heart jewels dangling in the center of each cut out leaf and a fake flickering candle at the bottom. Please check out the pictures and give me any comments or suggestions! They are much appreciated :)

I made a test centerpiece today - any comments or suggestions?
In certain respects I agree with Jessica - you'd get a nicer look with smaller leaves (even try different shaped leaves) and 'scatter' them around the pumpkin. This way you'd have a more subtle light shining out. I would not use real candles, especially if you are going to use fake pumpkins - the interior of those are not meant for real flames and you may either melt them or catch them on fire. Stick with the battery ones.
One other suggestion - you'll notice the edges are a little rough, which is too be expected when you are using a sharp object to 'carve' with. You should sand the edges rounded with a fine sandpaper, then I would use 'glitter glue' in fall shades of copper or gold or red to put on the edge cuts. This will 'finish' the edge for you as well as give it a little extra shimmer. The glue is not all that expensive.
Other than that, it looks cute! If you look around the craft stores they probably have little 'picks' of scarecrow boys or girls for like 50 cents that would be cute too!
Good Luck
Reply:so cute! i think it's perfect for a fall wedding. you are so creative.
Reply:I think it looks awful.....cheap......don't do it....
if u want to do something like that why not use real flowers and maybe gords with tealights around it
Reply:I like that. I would just be careful the light from the candles does not light the flowers on fire. That would be bad!!!
Reply:Too cute!!! They look really great! If you are going to light the candles inside I would suggest taking out the charm hanging from the ribbon though - it is a fire hazard. If the candles are fake, then the charm looks great!!!
Reply:Way cute idea. I would get the clear tea lights at Target of course, instead of white ones...and I would try to use real pumpkins if you can.
You could have a pumpkin carving party for a rehearsal dinner the night before!
Reply:I'd go with much smaller leaf cutouts, more scattered at random around the pumpkin. Don't bother with the jewels. Love what you chose for the topper.
Aren't those fake tealights great? I just bought some!
Reply:I think it's really nice! My only opinion would be to use real tealights in them. It makes a huge difference. Other than that - its perfect!
Reply:it's cute but what's the point of a fake candle in a fake pumpkin...i mean it won't throw out light or shine thru the pumpkin. i would secure the florals into the top of the pumpkin and go with real candles in leaf votive holdersor clear glass holders down the center of table in between pumpkins and use leaves scattered on the table as well...
Reply:I think it came out really nice. Maybe you should try to put the flower inside instead of the fake candle, and then you could dangle the hearts on the outside, just a thought. Either way I think it will look really nice!
Reply:i love this fall theme..very creative!
Reply:Very cute i think every one will love them you might try to make it a little Fuller and see if you like that if you have the extra cash
Reply:What about the people on the other side of the cut out? All they will seee is the pumpkin... It needs to be the same on all sides
Reply:First, awesome idea. Love the maple leaf (Canadian, so of course I do ;) ... ) In any event, I was trying to picture this in the centre of the table, and all these people sitting around it. Not everyone is going to be able to see the leaf other than 2 or 3 people sitting on that side of it. If it's a possibility, why not have a few smaller leaves all around it? Give everyone a cute view!
Good luck!
Reply:I think you did a great job. did you ask a question about what to carve into the pumpkins yesterday? someone did and i couldn't think of anything to say but this is really cute. i like it and congrats on your wedding. i got married in oct. also. oct. 28, 2000. good luck.
Reply:Cute, my suggestion would be to carve smaller leaves in more qty. on the pumpkin, that way you cant see the led candle or the inside of the fake pumpkin it self.
In addition after you are done i would get a fine grain sand paper and lightly sand the edges of the cuts so they dont look rough.
Reply:Very pretty!!! I love Pumpkins and Fall. You have a very unique idea and it looks great! Congratulations.
Reply:I also like the idea of smaller leaves carved in --
is there any way to get real greenery for the top? I think real is always nicer (except with the pumpkins, they would probably stink).
Also-- be aware if you use real tealights in the pumpkin that you need to make sure there is an opening at the top or you could start a fire...
--I love the dangling jewels... very creative indeed
Reply:cute!
the only thing i would change would be the cut out of the maple leaf on the front.
i would just leave the pumpkin whole with the flower arangement commingo ut the tip.
you could also add tea light candles around the pumpkin in "fall" colored holders.
also sprinkle some maple leaf's on the tables.
Reply:Very creative....BUT IMO Looks kinda cheap to me.
#1 i would use real flowers.
#2 the candle looks better than the heart
#3 I understand because it's October with the pumpkin...but i personally would not go with a halloween themed centerpiece
Reply:Love the idea, great for a October wedding. Maybe add gold on the pumpkin to "pretty it up".
Reply:very cute! i love them...
