Consignment Booth?

I am considering opening a consignment booth at a local shop in my very small town. It is inside an old grocery store. The lady who runs it sells artificial floral arrangements and gifts and has booths set up around the perimeter. She wants $40/month plus 10% of sales for a 12' x 10' area. Sounds reasonable to me? Anyone ever done this or do this? How well did you do. I will sell mostly new womens and mens clothing and accessories.

Consignment Booth?
Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Just don't lock yourself into a long term contract.

If you do real well, you can negotiate the 10% in the future as it may seem way too high!

Some questions to ask her (or yourself):

How will she require your sales reporting? Actual "z" tape (report from cash register) or will you just submit a form with totals?

Does she advertise?

Will you be required to be there all hours the store is open? Can you secure your items if you are not there?

If you can't secure items, who would ring up sales if your items are left in the open?

How much traffic does she get?

Can you advertise? (check your lease agreement)

From your question I take it that this will be a pretty informal contract, so your biggest problems will be your inventory security (from experience, you are more likely to have stock stolen from other vendors than from actual shoplifters).

Good luck!
